Tending to growth, finding renewal
Feb. 1st, 2026 11:03 pmJanuary has been a long month, and the last week of January was likely the longest week. On Monday, we put one of our cats to rest. As hard as the time was, I found solace and completion in being able to process her passing with my family, to support my children, and hold space with my partner to ensure that our kids got the time they needed.
Immediately following that, in very much what felt like a process of renewal, we began to make progress on projects we have been talking about as a family since December, and began to prepare our space for hosting visitors. We were able to start visits this week, which felt like a wonderful way to celebrate life and connection, and companionship and laughter. After such a long, cold, sad month full of literal fights for wellness, amidst so many of us fighting cold or flu, being able to begin gathering, exerting, and connecting to enjoy good meals and good company was a gloriously refreshing change of pace.
Where list progress is concerned, the home preparations themselves helped move goals along. We were able to host the first gatherings of the year, and make plans for the next weeks and months.
Building community and supporting events - helped host a Beginner DM Training, and supported 2 events for community protest of recent transgressions.
Monthly Physical Challenge - with the help of a friend, I was able to complete the monthly physical challenge for GoRuck 2026, completing the “Origin - Strike” workout just before the end of the month. I don’t have an ETA as to when the physical markers of the status - patches and accessories - may arrive, but the work is well underway, and I am very thankful for the company for the process, as it makes a nice difference to build and enjoy community in the process. I was also able to attend another Kung Fu class, so while I missed elements of the series they are pursuing, I was thankful for the timing of what I was able to attend, as the time and practice will always be a salve to answer the specters of burnout and general chaos on the part of decision makers at various levels.
Read 30 books - having opened the floodgates to the process, I have been inundated with books loaned from friends and myriad ideas, so I have easily been able to put the gift of bookmarks to use for the physical books I have in progress, and have many more books - very close to the full list of 30 in my tracking sheet - on deck for next reads.
Adding list items has slowed some, as I focus on making progress on the most pertinent or immediately relevant goals for now, but contemplation continues of what to add next.
Reflecting on how the month has gone, both at the prompting of the current Passion Planner’s prompts, and my own reflections, reminds me that more journaling, both public and private, are definitely needed, as there are so many revelations and concept discoveries underway that I want more time and space to unpack them. More reflection time is definitely needed, so I will continue to catch-as-catch-can, and see what time I can dedicate to contemplation and reading, so that more progress can be made.
