Balance, maintenance, and practice
Jan. 18th, 2026 10:28 pmThe past week was full of long, busy days and not enough sleep. Overall, I feel like things went well, if not always the way I wanted them to go.
Where 101 list maintenance is concerned, I created myself additional sheets for tracking, since the undertaking is something that I want to be able to tend easily to prevent the practice slipping away, like so much other maintenance tends to do in light of other, newer, more pressing priorities. Having things decently documented makes it more realistic for me to return to something and have any idea where I left off.
Monthly physical challenge: I signed up for GoRuck Tribe, for more organization to the process of “building slowly” where physical activity is concerned, and I have gotten started with a small handful of hikes - Rucks, as they call them - with the pack loaded with weights to hit the “base weight” for starting out. On the first Ruck I noticed old backpacking soreness that I hadn’t felt in a very long time, so had to pay closer attention to the mechanics of my stride to ensure even motion. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to build slowly, but still build to the point that the movement comes more easily as strength builds, to help prevent injury for other hikes and adventures.
Pet hospice continues, without significant decline, but also without as much “rallying” as I had hoped for to feel a little less concerned about needing to watch closely for signs of constant discomfort or distress. I suspect the cat will soldier on for a decent while yet, but close attention and assistance/firm encouragement with eating will be required so she does not decline as quickly as she would without help.
Getting back to home maintenance continues, with organization and “making a place for everything” so that things can have a place getting underway. I’m looking forward to making a bit more progress tomorrow, and thankful that the long weekend affords 1 more day to get things done and prepare for the rest of the week.
Build community - support events: I was able to volunteer for an event this week, for both my role and fill in gaps as needed, as many people have been sick this week as the winter cold & flu season hits harder than last year.
As figuring out the pace of events goes, 2 events per month seems to work the best so far, since inevitably, as soon as we schedule 2 events, we end up lucky to have 2 nights per week that are unscheduled. Thankfully, all the things filling our nights and weekends have been fun and fulfilling one way or another.
